Annotative Bibliography One: Leadership in Life
The article I found on the Galileo website was all about leadership and how to apply it to your life. It explained the various qualities and skills leaders should possess in order to be successful. The general ideas the author talked about were personal competence, social competence, and caring. Personal competence is crucial if you want to be a role model. The article states that you need to know yourself before you can know others. In order to do that, you should spend time on your personal life before anything else. Once you have the knowledge and understanding of your own course, start helping others. That leads into social competence. Social competence is important when helping other people; you must be careful. In order to be successful at leading in a social environment, you have to keep an open mind to various ages, ethnicities, genders, and social classes. Another key quality in leadership is caring. The category of caring talks about the consideration you should have when it comes to people's interests, feelings, and values. People will remember you if you are compassionate towards them.
Overall, this source was more helpful than I originally thought it would be. I’ll be able to take my ideas from the world of dance and my mentorship and tie it all into leadership. I’ve done so many things within my ballet company, that there are endless things to define when it comes to being the proper role model.
Annotative Bibliography Two: Relationships in Life
My article from J. Wallace was all about relationships and the interactions we have as human beings. It explained how it is in our human nature to want to belong with a group or to just be loved; we long to be understood and supported as well. Having said that, it was made known that relationships can come from three main domains. These domains are home/family, work, and community. Each one can affect our lives differently; they can also intertwine with one another. This is where things can get complicated. J. Wallace described that in some situations relationships can benefit our health and emotional well-being. For example, wallace said. “Supportive coworkers may provide emotional and instrumental assistance to one another, which are valuable resources in facilitating career success and positive work attitudes” (Hakanen, Schaufeli, and Ahola 2008; Kay and Wallace 2010; Viswesvaran, Sanchez, and Fisher 1999). However, he also made it clear that certain friendships can stress a person out if it is too overwhelming which causes the person to slack in daily routines. One other key idea to the realm of relationships is the fact that the three domains can intertwine like said before. For instance, if a person is having problems with their boss at work, it is okay for them to go home and talk with their spouse about what is going on. It is actually a healthy thing to intercept all the domains. If no one did, then everyone would be bombarded with stress. Overall, this article really helped me get a good perspective of what relationships look like and how to juggle them all. I believe that this source is credible and will be contributional for my research project in the future. The source is reliable because they have cited their own sources throughout their article and at the bottom proving they did healthy research of their own. So, I am confident that the information is true and trustworthy. With all of this said, I plan to use this information in my project. I wanted to get a glimpse of relationships and how they would potentially affect people. This will tie into leadership more than most think. Afterall, to be a leader, you have to know who you are leading. If you understand the type of relationship you have with a person, you will know how to appropriately lead or help them.
Annotative Bibliography Three: Dancer's Life and Perspective
This article has been very useful for the creation of my research project. The article is mainly about the everyday life of a dancer. It talks about the physical, mental, and emotional side of dancing and intensive training and the effects it can have on a human being. The articles goes on to explain that most dancers start training at a very young age; from the time they begin training, they are already being exposed to discipline, respect, and self-awareness. These are very important qualities that dancers NEED to posses. Those are the good parts of a dancer’s life. However, there are bad parts. The bad things can include physical and mental fatigue, injuries, small social life, small amounts of free time, and sometimes emotional distress. It starts to weigh on a person when they always have to tell friends and family “No, I can’t, I have dance,” or when they are constantly worried about their body image and appearance. These sound like small issues, but that start to add up. The article goes on to say that these are things artists give up in order to achieve their ultimate goal for their careers. So, I wanted to use this as a background to help my research. I have been through many things involving dance. I can use my struggles to help and lead others who go through similar situations. This all plays apart in my previous research about relationships and how leadership plays different roles depending on what relationship is being encountered. Lastly, this source is believed to be very credible. I have found an abundance of good information from the author of the article. She has gone on to cite her own resources from her research that lets me know she is a reliable source.
