Essential Question: How does leadership effect us, and what do relationships have to with it?
Abstract
My Research
2016-2017
Meagan Wade: Diane Callahan, The Gainesville Ballet Company
Over the 2016 - 2017 school year, I did a mentorship with the Gainesville Ballet Company. I helped assist students in ballet and jazz classes. I was also able work in the office of the company a little too. Through this, I experienced two different sides of running a business and the work it takes to keep one strong. For my project, I decided to research how leadership relates to different kinds of relationships since I had encountered various ones through my mentorship. I was curious to see how different people act depending on who they are around.
First, I wanted to know what makes a leader and what qualities they posses. I found out that leadership can mean something different to everybody. In general, leaders should be creative, patient, open-minded, and they should show initiative. After that, I continued my research, this time about what type of relationships people can obtain. I learned that there are three main types. You can have family/home relationships, work relationships, and community relationships. My research said that it is important and healthy to mingle those different types together. Finally, I did some of my own primary research. I interviewed one of my ballet peers on leadership and relationships. I was shocked to see how crucial it is to have someone in your life you can look up to. I realized that people are put in your life for a reason because they help mold who you are.
Ultimately, I wanted to learn as much as I could about being a leader. I have a strong connection to the students/children I teach, and I wanted them to have a good role model at ballet. So, through my research I learned a tremendous amount about myself, and now I am able to help and teach as much as I can in an effective way because I understand the relationship I have with my students. Hearing about my research can help others to; you have to understand the type of relationship you have with someone before you can efficiently lead them.
